Getting something done
Finally getting some stuff done on the pick-up. Last night I installed the shifter but now have to take it over to a shop to drop the transmission pan to add a shift thingy since it is an fmx. Next in line are the Altman bear claws I have the rebuilt 9 inch with 3:20 gears so it is not as noisy in the cab now.

BJ the FMX is the only trans that I know of that you have to do this to but no big deal Lokar sends the piece with the shifter . Also if I wanted to change to a different trans I could buy a kit for the new trans and not have to buy a different shifter which is what I liked about it because I have thrown around the idea of using my 302 and aod. When we go through Knoxville on the way to the Carpenter Nationals we are going to stop in at Lokar and Jeff said he would give a tour I don't know how big a facility it is but we be stopping. Last time we were in Chattanooga we took a tour of the Coker Tire / Honest Charley speed shop and museum. Once again I would like to thank Al Gore for putting spell check in his internet.

I or should I say a transmission guy hooked up the shifter he had to pull the valve body so we replaced fluid and filter (duh). I really like the lokar shifter the only thlng that I would like on it is for it to lock in drive as sometimes as we drive we might hit it and it would go to 2nd but that is not going to keep me awake at night. You will notice the gorilla shifter boot (black duct). Having it up on the hoist is what I like as I get to inspect the truck I found a rear seal leaking (new parts ) so will replace it. The next thing now is the Altman latches going to start that today and will post pictures of the progress. I definitely need to get some insulation in the cab as it is hot as.

Slow going but I did get both doors done on the Altman latches. Bought new locks at the show and now just putting them in. In the pictures below the new lock is on the right you can see the keeper that has to go in between the lock and the inner door but the slot that the keeper goes in is not as wide as the old locks plus the stainless cap on the lock is a tad thinker so with the new gasket and all of the other things that I mentioned I cannot get the keeper in . The locks do work but feel a touch rough. I think that I will widen the slots out in the lock a small bit at a time as they are $40.00 a pair. Has anyone got any other ideas ? I should say that the rough part is on the latch not the tumbler so much but then how often will I lock them !!!!!!
These will be nice.

I can't help you with the locks, I did install Altman latches since mine were toast. I also decided to use door poppers and forego locks altogether. I shaved the exterior door handles on both doors. I do have an emergency latch if needed in case the battery dies or the electrical poppers decide to crater. I just thought it might help to deter a theft.
