Thank you, the links explained some more that i wasn't catching. I do have a follow-up, the switch I have (minus the signal cam) looks like the below. This is the first time I've seen this style, and i don't know that it's correct for what I've got (we've covered this, kinda i know). I can't troubleshoot what I need instead because i don't know which wire on the wrong part is supposed to bring the power in. I'm more familiar with what was posted here previously. Is there anyone willing to roll their eyes and point me in the right direction for contacts on this thing?
You might have a 1979-dwn switch. I kept looking at the blue/red wire with the silver thing on the end. Is the silver thing a small bulb socket? Didn't the 70's pickups have the PRND21 indicator on the column itself with a little bulb to light it up?
It is supposed to have a small light on the end, when I pulled the wheel off that wire was just buried in the column. My bronco is a 4 spd manual, no tilt, so i definitely don't need a prnd21 light.
Good call! I looked at a 1978 turn signal switch at RockAuto:
Look familiar under the cam?
Was this mystery switch previously installed? Or is it a new purchase? Somebody sell you the wrong switch? What year is your truck? I thought 1980 models had some major wiring differences, but don't for sure.
Definitely looks like what I had before I pulled the cam off. Bronco is a 1983 (double checked against the vin), previous owner bought the turn signal switch and installed it. I bought another one (autozone swears its for a 1983 no tilt.....) since I figured maybe it was faulty. But after using a light tester, the power coming in from the female side lines up exactly with the empty space on the male connector pictured above. Not sure if someone changed something out some time ago and didn't mention it or something else, but I'm at a bit of a loss since I can't figure out what turn signal switch "should" work and I don't know which wire on the wrong part should be supplying power.

Hmm, I poked around a little bit. I was not aware* the 80-83 switch is physically different than 84-86. I haven't dug too deeply, but they do appear to be the same electrically. For testing the early style, see page 97 here:

That is for 81, but it should be the same as your 83.
This is good to know as I have an '80 that I'll be digging into. The truck came with a tilt steering column (as an 'upgrade'). The column in the cab now is non-tilt. But, I think the p.o. said the tilt unit was from a later Bull Nose Bronco.

Ok, update for anyone still looking. Sure enough the flasher for the hazard switch was not installed. Installed one and the hazard flashers now work. The turn signal harness i bought did not have a wire that corresponded to the "on in acc" wire coming from the bronco. I ended up moving what i believe to be the appropriate wire to the correct place on the turn signal side of the 305 and now I have solid lights when i hit the turn signal, both left and right. Not there yet, but a ton closer than last I posted.
edit: On a side note, if I stick a light tester on the connections for the signal flasher, should I have a light for one of them? because i currently don't (tested with a known good ground).

Yes, but the key has to be in the Run position. If no power to either socket for the turn signal flasher (key still in Run), check fuse #5. Also, check if the reverse lights work. They are powered by the same fuse.
