1953 turn signals wiring diagram
I've got stock turn signals on my '53 F100, but can't figure out the way to wire it. I think I understand the theory now and Earl's diagram is a big help but does not match my wire colors. The colors coming out of the turn signal switch are:
Yellow
Red
White
Blue
and two Greens
My service manuals don't even mention a turn signal and the wiring diagrams in there are useless. Can anybody point me to a diagram that matches my truck or otherwise help?

Scott,
Do you have a volt-ohm meter? If not buy a cheapie at Sears, Harbor Freight, etc. Set the turn signal lever to the center position. Next step, check the continuity beteen each of your two greens and the other four colors...one green should have continuity to one of the other colored wires. This will be the normally closed contact position, the one that passes through the brake light current directly without flashing. Move the turn signal handle up and see which green wire breaks continuity...now find the other color that now HAS continuity with that green wire. This is the set of wires that match your left turn circuit. Do the same for the right side and you should now be able to match your siring color codes to the chart supplied in Earls. Good luck...

Fred, I'm in the process of wiring my 55 F350 turn signal. I'm trying to marry my stock turn signal with the Painless wiring harness; which I'm finding a bit challenging. However, I tried to download your images but nothing came up. Can you repost them, Please!

Also, instead of the starter button in the dash I'm putting a 4-way flasher (that I found on Americanwire) unit in the dash. My plan is just to tap into the turn signal wires and route to the 4-way flasher, any other ideas are surely welcome.
