Warning to anyone buying the repo Wiper switch part DS-701
I went to start up my truck to make a trip to donate some furniture to good will . started her up and pop pop all my dash lights go out .
I check and the wiper circuit fuse popped . strange so I grab my meter and start testing . dead short .
so I pull the gauge cluster and find my wiper switch in pieces .
I replaced this when i did my custom cluster awhile back with a repo . guess that was a mistake . Hopefully I kept the old crusty Ford one . need to dig in my F100 old parts bin ,
So is Carpenter NOS obsolete parts a separate company from Dennis Carpenter?
NOS OBSOLETE refers to the fact that these are NOS parts, not repro's. How many NOS parts are listed in Carpenters catalogs?
Carpenter "made a deal" with FoMoCo, can purchase parts direct from them that they plan to obsolete.
Some of the other obsolete parts vendors are P/O'd, because according to FoMoCo, only franchised new car/truck dealers, Motorcraft jobbers can purchase parts from them.
Carpenter isn't a dealer, since he doesn't sell any new cars or trucks. No one knows if he's a Motorcraft jobber, but if he is...it's the best kept secret since the Manhattan Project.
thanks Numberdummy !
I am thinking there was something wrong with my original one that made me get the repo . as normally I am the type not to replace something unless it's broken .
Pretty sure it was DC , they list there's under the Fomoco part number But it is the cheap repo with no markings .
I got the NOS switch off ebay it was the best price for the in the box NOS one .
I always recommend upgrading to delay wipers. The later style delay switch is available new from Motorcraft: MOTORCRAFT SW1572A for like $68 on Rock Auto and other places.
The control/delay module can be had on ebay relatively cheap (like $40 or so) and the modification to the switch itself to make it fit our trucks is really not that hard. I cut the end off, dremeled the flat spot down a bit more and then slapped on some large washers and it was good. Below is a link to a good article on Fordification:
