loss of power when shifting gears

Hi all, I have a question regarding my 2000 F550 7.3 manual trans. I noticed several times while driving it yesterday that the truck seemed to lose power and felt like it would stall when shifting gears. I would press the fuel pedal and the engine light would come on and go out after I released the pedal.(engine sounded like it was stuck in neutral) after a few seconds i would press the pedal again and the engine responded normally and I was able to drive and shift normally, like nothing happened. This happened at different speeds and in different gears over the course of the day. Never experienced this before. I should add, that about 3 weeks ago I ran out of fuel. Found out the gauge doesn't read accurately from the person I bought the truck from back in Sept. don't know if that might have a bearing on the problem. Just wondering if anyone has had this happen and point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
George

Hey George did you ever figure out what was causing this because I have the same problem and it's driving me nuts.

Does it have any codes stored?

I haven't had time to take it to a shop that has a reader that can see stored codes yet. Sometimes the service engine soon light comes on the quickly goes off but complete loss of power like its in neutral with no throttle response

The service engine light means there are codes stored. You need those codes to fix this.

You can read them by downloading Forscan free at www.forscan.org. Their page shows how to select an adapter to plug into the OBDII port. I bought mine from Amazon from about $30.

I'll have to order one. I'll probably take it in to have the codes read tomorrow but I definitely need my own scanner. Thank you Mark
