Imagine how many more of these they would sell if the purchase and installation were plug and play simple and not shrouded in such mystery. The Ford website should be straight and to the point as the cost and the procedure, not "see dealer for details", then as many are reporting, the dealer knows nothing. It would be great to able to buy it online, and activate it online yourself, the plug it in to the OBDII and go.

That would be too easy plus it would eliminate a revenue stream for the programming of the SmartLink which so far can only be done at a Ford dealer.
Contact FairwayFord in Ohio.
They will give you all of the info you need regarding SmartLink plus the monthly data cost.
They also have an eBay store.
Have a great weekend.
All I need is a dealer to install the 48 key fob code and I can literally not find anyone that has any clue what the hell I am talking about. Wish it could be done with Forscan!
All you do is show them the 48 pin and they program it as a 3rd key fob. My dealer did it today in about 5 minutes free of charge. You did generate the 48 pin yourself?
For anyone who has bought one..... Could you share any printed instructions that came with it?
Thanks
Here is the doc, but I can save you some trouble and simplify it. I bought from fairway ford. They activate your account and give you login and password. Wait 15 min and plug unit into your OD port. You login on your computer with the info provided by the dealership. It will activate. Click the keyfob icon and it generates a 48 digit code. Have to write it down, take a pic, etc. and take it to local dealership to have it programmed in. (Can't do via forscan). Very simple.
Also - you need the factory remote start for this. I didn't have that either, but ordered both from fairway and it was a 10 minute install including the time to enable it via forscan.
