Points removal

I have removed the points from my distributor and put in electronic ignition, and I am in the process of putting in a new wiring harness. It is a kwik wire harness, it states that if I don't have a points ignition i don't need a balast resistor, is this an accurate statement? Do I still need a wire from the "I" terminal on the solenoid to coil, if I don't need a balast resistor.

It depends, the ballast (resistor) drops the voltage - but what's really going on is limiting the current or amperes flowing through the primary circuit of the ignition itself and the ignition components - the wiring/points/module. It's not excess voltage that will hurt anything really, but excessive current flow burning up coils, modules, points, etc.

SO ... it depends on what coil - and (assuming) you have a Pertronix I Ignitor module - the coil primary windings must be at least 1.5 ohms. Pertronix sez no more than 8 amps for the 1281 series. Then the ballast can be safely removed or bypassed. Measure coil resistance between DIST. and BAT terminals. Do the math and you'll get a handle on it.
