Wiring general question

This is my first post so here goes:
When the Rangers are made, are the wiring harnesses the same for all vehicles regardless of the options installed? So say I want to install after-market options like keyless entry, power windows, fog lights etc., do I need worry about adding wires from door actuators on each side of the vehicle to a controller or switch or are the wires already there and it's just a matter of digging them out of the harnesses? Thanks in advance

I can't answer your question on a general basis, hopefully someone else might be able to do that.

What option do you want to add? Many folks have found that their Ranger came with the necessary fog lamp harnesses despite having no fog lamps. See:

Then it's worth reading through this TRS thread.

Thanks for the link. It shed enough light on the subject for me that has convinced me it's probably not worth the bother. The issue of needing a new wiring harness is what precipitated my original post!

I added power stuff to my 94 from a 97 ranger and 00 explorer. Power windows, mirrors, seats, have the door locks but not the GEM or whatever to make them work. Had to make my own wire bundle to tie the windows and stuff together for the switches, used relays and installed another fuse block just for them. Not hard but did take a couple of days. Have remote door locks that are aftermarket. If you have a donor vehicle its fairly easy, mine was from a wrecking yard and I cut the wire harness at the cab to door frame and wired the colors together and the marked then as to what they are, dont know how much the keyless would add but again there is an item called a gem that I believe is needed to work.

For the windows dont forget you need the door panels so as to have the switches as if original.

Thanks for the info Hank. I am looking at an after market kit on Amazon but have heard instructions are minimal. I am into electronics by trade so should be able to get it done but mechanical skills are lower down my skill set!
