keyless entry install

can anyone tell me if the power door locks are positive trigger or negative trigger?

I'm planning to tap onto the switches. Hopefully there are relays between the switches and the lock actuators so I dont have to add relays.

I need a manual bad - where did some of you get the CD?
pm me if needed and let me know where I can get this.

Tom

If you download a wiring diagram from the kits manufacturer that should tell you. I have a similar kit on mine, but I can't remember the details of that door wiring.

You do not tap into the switches, but rather into the wires in the main bundle hidden underneath the driver side kick panel. The wiring diagram will tell you which color wires to tap into.

I installed a Crimestoppers RKE & remote starter in my '93 last summer. I do not have the data on hand here at home, but I do at work, including the wiring colors and trigger polarity. I'll try to remember to dig them out tomorrow.

Meantime, I do have three pics of how I tapped in. Left kick panel has to be removed to access this harness. Once that's off, it's a snap. I did have to use two isolation diodes (sourced out of my junk pile) that my CS installation instructions called for for my situation.

thanks for the pic it helps tremendously

the 2 wires - blue and green, do they go to relays or directly to the alarm box?

OK last post for tonight, my alarm came with a starter relay kill thingy (basicaly you can't start the car till the alarm is disabled) but the instructions are not clear as how to hook it up other than you cut the wire and attach this relay setup (read: literaly cut the wire into two, not splice into). the relay has four wires going into it, and three coming back out. the colors are green, black, orange and yellow. the book i have says that the yellow wire is the positive switched ignition input. the orange wire is (-) 500 Ma armed output. what's this all mean? i don't wanna blow somthing up...

not sure where the green or black wires go...

here's a pic:

sorry to thread jack, i thought it might help with others who may have this problem/q though.

@tc2468: blue & green wires shown go to the RKE box. On the harness side, I do not recall whether the pink wires are to the actuators or the relay (probably the OEM relay).

@DCRB: Positive switched Ign. input means a wire that turns ON when the key is in the IGN position. Typically, that means NOT an Accy wire, which switches OFF while you crank the engine.

Armed output drives a relay (at no more than 0.5 amp) to drive some alarm accessory. I don't install alarms, so I can't be more specific than that.

ahhhhhhh. yeah i figured out the orange wire, basicaly it is what tells the starter relay not to start the car (like the remote wire on a car amp) when the alarm is armed.

I'm guessing that the green and black wires simply connect to both sides of the starter wire then?

Yes, just like the wiring color quote above.

For my particular RKE unit, a pair of diodes were needed (as shown in that unit's diagram above). I used something like 1N4001 or whatever I had laying around. Anything rated for 50v or above and one amp should work.

[later]
Oh, I see that the diode spec is in the diagram. I overlooked that.

all buttoned up

I installed the alarm and it all works pretty good.
My Van has a feature that turns on the interior lights if you slightly lift the door handle witch will set the alarm off.
