My 78 F150 has no parking brake warning light even though the owner's manual indicates it should and even details how it works. . The hydraulic brake warning light operates as it should during cranking, as a bulb check. There is no switch at the parking brake pedal.

Was this an error in the manual? I haven't seen any others at the junkyards that have a switch either.

Has anyone ever tried installing a switch from an 80's model and connecting it to a separate light that could be mounted in the lower dash?

Hard to believe that a parking brake warning light was not standard on these trucks. Could it have been optional?

 

Yeah, I don't think Dents ever had a parking brake (on) indicator. Absolutely you can add a switch and indicator light. I've thought about this too.
My ideas ranged from adding a separate LED inside the brake warning light, to my favorite idea, which is a flashing LED which illuminates the Parking Brake release handle.

You're right - it does kind of suck, not having any indication that your E-brake is engaged, until you start to let up the clutch...

 

I have thought of the same thing in the past. Thought of installing this under the dash by the release handle.
