Rear end interchange question.
Can anyone tell me definitively if a late 70s 9in rear will bolt into a bulldoze. If so, did they also use diiferent width springs between 2wd and 4wd?

The late 70's Ford rearends are the same width. Don't know about the springs, of course you probably already know 80-up 2x4's use 2.5 inch wide springs, 80-up 4x4's use 3 inch wide springs. The width spring will not matter as far as rearend goes, it will mount to either width.

I took a Bullnose 9 inch (that has 5x4.5 bolt pattern) and put it in my ‘77. It will bolt right in.

FWIW, I have swapped a lot of rear ends that didn't necessarily "fit" . Simple job, go to a trailer supply place, get new pads, torch the old ones off. Set the rear end in with the new ones, set the pinion angle and weld the pads down.

That's awesome, thanks fellas. I've done plenty of odd rear end swaps but between work and kids I barely have time to work on my rigs so a bolt in saves a lot of time.
