my 78 1/2 ton has 2 leaves left on the passenger side and 3 on driver side that are not broke. can i put 3/4 springs under with little to no modification? what would be the benefits of putting leaf under the front?
for the rear springs as long as they are the same width it should be a bolt on, for the front the only benefit of a leaf front is sturdiness, they are much stiffer though.

If you have 2WD, your 1/2 ton would probably have 2.5 inch wide rear springs. All the 2WD 3/4 rear springs I know of are 3 inches wide and won't fit in your 1/2 ton rear spring hangers! I have noticed that some 4wd 1/2 tons have the wider 3/4 ton springs so it will work if you have one of those. Also, don't be fooled while measuring things due to the spring hangers having an extra 1/2 inch over the spring width. (example, the 1/2 ton 2.5 inch spring will have a 3 inch hanger and a 3 inch wide spring will have a 3.5 inch wide hanger. Hope this helps out some. Mike.
just to clarify my 78 is 4x4 and has 3" wide springs. i want to up to 3/4 ton springs because i haul wood and concrete every once in a while and want a little more steering control. would the 3/4 ton springs help in that aspect?
Id just order new springs for your model of truck. When you order them tell them what you plan on doing with the truck and maybe add an extra leaf or add some overloads. That way nobody gets confused and you end up with a headache. As for leafs in the front...thats more work than its worth. You can get new coils that would be way better than the old worn ones.
