Okay, so Rod caps are date coded C9 and Rods are date coded D9 and are original Ford parts, so does that mean that this was just pieced together. C9 means 1969 and D9 means 1979 right?
The block is D9TE and crank is 3YA.
That engine was twisting 6-6500 rpm when it let go and the oil pump sucked up enough debris to lock it up twisted the oil pump drive quite nicely, 35 years of engine building i have seen this carnage many times and not a one of them was putten along wot.The piston next to the rusty cylinder has 020 stamped on it so engine been rebuilt cheap builder cast pistons. If i was you and wanted to get it going quick and cheap i would purchase a 1978 460 that's on ebay right now 600 plus 220 for the ride and 90 day warranty the sellers name is frenchlakeautoparts it's a junk yard in minnesota. It has the flywheel for c6 on it if your truck has a c6 in it it's plug and play otherwise you will have to get a internally bal flywheel.
Why spend $1500 for a 429 when you get more cubes for a 460 delivered to your door for $845. That sounds to me like a no-brainer. Even with a full tune up, it will still cost you under a grand.
Is a 1970 460 with DOVE-C heads a good one. It seems a lot of people prefer DOVE heads but I know nothing about them. I can get this whole engine at good price and is suppose to be running?
That engine is 10.5:1 and likely a little much for 93 pump gas and a 180 tstat depending on the above answers.
What is a good price on it?
The heads are worth a couple hundred if in usable shape.....you coudl buy the whole deal, put on D3 heads, and have a better compression ratio for truck usage and not be out any money...or be money ahead.
The DOVE blocks sell for $300-$400 bare. All 1970 DOVE blocks are factory cobra jet castings. Some are 2 bolt, some are 4 bolt...some ended up in Lincolns and some in Torino's and Mustang's.
The last one I bought I paid $500 and sold the heads for $400.....so I had a $100 CJ block.
However, the pass car non- CJ blocks are just fine to 750hp.

This one is in a lincoln, I can get it for $600 I have a 77 f150 short wide 4X4. I do not know what gears I have or how to tell. It will basically be a daily driver for son. Towing something would be a very rare ocasion. Its is suppose to be a running engine. I do not live in a high altitude, I live is south. I usually run 87 octane gas but I do not want an engine that cants run 93 either
