For anyone who was biting their nails in anticipation... I tried to clean up the surface rust with a scotch pad (those green kitchen cleaning pads). Below are photos from after cleaning. Almost everything cleaned up nicely, other than a couple spots here and there. I can't feel anything with my fingernail anymore.
What do you all think? I will be measuring the journals with a pair of micrometers next.
