I was removing cylinder #6 fuel injector and the head of the torx bolt stripped out. I tried extractors until the head was gone, so I ended up just grinding the head off to get a left handed drill bit in it. I'm about a quarter of the way through the dog gone injector hold down clamp with left handed bits and no movement from the bolt. The bits are no longer cutting, and are just kind of bouncing in the hole.
I really need some help with how to get this thing out, so if you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it.
I pulled a broken exhaust manifold bolt from a 2008 Chrysler Aspen 5.7 head. I started with the smallest bit, then worked my up to the size chart. Eventually the bit got "wedged" in and when I backed the bit out, it brought the bolt with it. My plan was to use an easy out, but didn't need to. I have had this happen on at 3 occasions.
If the drill is just sort of bouncing around it may be because the drill was dull and not cutting and so as it was just sort of "rubbing" you tried to compensate by pushing harder which produced enough heat to work harden the bolt.
If you have access to a carbide drill bit I would switch to that til you cut through that hardened portion and you should be able to drill normally again.
