was doing head gasket on my 99 f250 5.4l and I head bolt snapped 2-3 inches in the block. I think the torque wrench I was using was faulty (never clicked/buzzed/flashed/vibrated nothing) or it could have been some faulty bolts ( bought online appeared to be new but where the old design in a old battered box) It snapped rigid so drilling it out hasn’t been working to so well, I’ve tried butting the bolt up the the snapped portion to see if it would back out with no luck. The bolt didn’t bottom out yet. What can I do?
That is the only good option when the bolt is broke off deep down in the hole. Works great just take your time when making the guide bolt as it is critical that the guide hole is perfectly straight
.
reverse twist drill bit.... as its drilling, it also is trying to unscrew the broken bolt. the above guide is very helpful..
if the broken bolt is TRULY NOT bottomed... a long skinny flat blade screwdriver.. and try to walk/rotate it out..
if its NOT bottomed, no pressure is on the threads to restrict movement ..
How big of a hurry are you in?, I have the tools to make one if you could tell me the thread size and pay the postage.
it’s not a daily or even a registered vehicle so not really in a huge rush just would like to get it put back together the thread size I will have to get figured out unless somebody has that answer for me I am willing to pay postage where would you be shipping from?
