I have a 2015 F350 DRW King Ranch that I bought used. While traveling out of town I got a screw in one of the outer rear tires. I called roadside assistance but they were unable to remove the spare because the truck did not come with the key. I went back to the dealer I purchased from and they said they would get one for me. The dealer could not get one of the keys from their master set to work. After talking with their head mechanic I realized that the set of master keys he was using was 10-15 years old. Does anyone know if their is a newer set of master keys or if they changed anything about them. The end on my truck does not appear to be damaged in anyway but seams to be a larger diameter then the key set the dealer has. Any suggestions
I had the same issue. Crawl under the truck, vise grips, small blocks of wood. If you pull down on the spare you should be able to have limited access to the spare tire hoist. Push a block in there to hold spare out of the way. Pull the plastic sleeve /guide to rear of the truck, this will give you access to the lock. Using a vise grips and PB blaster, wiggle the lock out of the hoist housing. You can also use a bolt extractor I think IIRC 3/4 or 18mm to remove the lock. Once the lock is out throw it away. I use a HF 3/8" socket extension to raise/Lower the spare tire. Hope this helps. s
I had the same problem with a 2012
Dealer had a master set of 12 keys but wrong size. A change in sizes occurred somewhere between 2001 and 2011. Use the gripper socket to get the tire down them remove the lock and discard it.
