spare tire
Hey guys when I bought the truck from the PO he never gave me the key for the spare tire. Its one of the ford spare tire keys but when I gave the parts guys my vin they got the key for it and its not the right one. The PO may have changed it since he had the truck. How would I go about getting the old key out and putting a new one in?

Same thing happened to me, no key. I went to the dealer and he had a container with assorted ones and we went through them till we found the correct one that fit. Not sure how many different sockets their are.

I used a socket and some long extensions to lower the tire. I think it was a 9/16" socket but I don't remember if it was 6 or 12 point (one fits better than the other). All I had to do was tap on the extensions with a hammer to get the socket to bite on the lock and it worked perfectly.
Once the tire was on the ground, I was able to remove the lock and toss it in the trash. That lock is worthless, doesn't slow down the thieves one little bit. If you are worried about theft, then you might want to consider some other method to secure the tire so it doesn't disappear.
