My 67 F100 has a 351W and C4 with 1978 stamping on them. The transmission linkage is not hooked up and seems to be missing some parts. I'm hoping somebody has or can take a picture of their linkage so I can try to piece it together. Thank you.
Put the rod with the adjustment slot back on and adjust it to work. I think you need a bushing to go in the slot? Move the shift lever in the cab ='s move the trans linkage. That is a Safety Neutral (and park) switch with the wires coming off it. if it is not adjusted correctly truck will NOT start. The other rod is your kick down lever and connects to the carb linkage and used to get it to go in to passing gear when you mash the gas.
Chalk the wheels because you will need to be under it putting it in P, R,N,D,2,1
So you are a E-5 Buck Sergeant Crewchief /Flight Engineer or just a ramp gunner (with a M240H) on a CH-47...cool gig ain't it?
Right, I guess what I’m looking for is how the rod from the column attaches to the shift linkage. Does it just sandwich between that nut and the linkage arm on the trans? Last time I messed with one I seem to remember it having a pin with a washer and cotter pin attaching the two.
The kickdown lever is missing on this truck so I’ll have to search the junkyards for one.
”Was” is the key word for that last part. I spent some time straddling a 240 in the mountains 😉
E100 and E150 vans also had a 351W/C4 combo in 78 as far as I can tell.
In either case I need to pull the trans and at the least rebuild it once I get the engine running. Truck sat in a pasture for years until I bought it a couple weeks ago.
there is a weird bolt that goes in there. Its machined on 2 sides to fit in the slot on the shift linkage, and slips through and pins to the shift arm on the trans. This was the best pic I could find(stolen from ebay) Not sure where you'd buy it separate, but an old school tranny shop might have one in there junk drawer. My only concern is the 2 bolt holes to the left of the kickdown arm, are for a cable shift. That would mean the shift arm is 180 degrees off from where you need it to be. If so, it would be just easier to get a lokar column linkage and start from scratch.
ND does this mean anything? Is this how the trans in the pic got a NSS? Because that trans in the pic sure looks to have a NSS on it.
OP has a 1967 F100. ALL 1967/77 F100/350's have the NSS on the steering column.
I can see the NSS on the trans in post #2 pic, but the trans (OP says engine/trans has 1978 stamping, whatever the hell this means) has to be from a car (LTD II[not an LTD!]/Thunderbird/Cougar).
Cars use a different NSS, manual control selector lever and etc linkage than the trucks.
There were no 351W's in F150/350 & Bronco until 1981. No F100 of any year had a 351W
351W's were available in Econolines beginning in 1975, but the A/T is a C6 and Econoline linkage won't work on a F100/350.
Upper/lower pics: Where is the E series (Econoline) 351W w/a C4? No see um.
Interesting, I must have been miss informed. In that case what vehicle in 78 was available with the 351W and C4? Since the parts stores can’t just look up things by engine and trans I can just tell them I need parts for a 78 so and so.
It it seems like I’ll just rig it to work well enough for me to diagnose whatever issues it may have.

1978 351W/C4 = LTD II (see pic below) - Thunderbird - Cougar // LTD II (not an LTD!) is the stupid and confusing name that the IDIOTS at FoMoCo renamed the Torino with in 1977.
