C4 shift linkage diagram

Would anyone have a photo of the shift linkage on an 81 F100 300 6 cylinder with a C4 transmission? I have the kickdown linkage hooked up, but I forgot how the shift linkage went together.(Yes I looked on Google, it showed everything BUT what I wanted)

Yes it is. Here is the linkage I have on my truck now. Thinking I am missing a bushing and a ball stud?

I think you are missing the whole bellcrank assembly. You should have a bracket on the frame and a bracket on the engine/bellhousing, with a shaft going inbetween the brackets. On the shaft is the bellcrank, which takes the up and down movement of the rod from the steering column, and converts it to a back and forth movement for the rod that goes to the trans shifter.

Here's a little movie on how a bellcrank works. Your bellcrank is not made in one piece like in the movie, you have part of the bellcrank on the shaft near the frame, and the other part of the bellcrank closer to the engine that goes down to the tranny.

Yes the bellcrank and the brackets for it are there, I didn't get far enough under the truck to get them in the photo

I took some better shots of my linkage on my 1981 F100, First photo shows the rod coming down from the steering column with the adjuster slot. Second photo shows the rod coming from the bell crank, to the shifter lever on the transmission. My question is, can I loosen the nut at the adjusting slot in photo 1, to move the rod inline with the shifter lever on the trans?

That trans shift lever you are pointing to. Is that the kickdown lever? You should have two levers, the shift lever and the kickdown lever. I am only see one lever coming out of the side of the trans.

Kickdown lever has not been connected yet, that rod hanging down is the shifter rod from the vehicle the trans came out of. I was just referencing the shift lever, in relation to the rod coming down from the bellcrank

My main concern, is can I gain enough slack by loosening the adjuster bolt, to bring the rod from the bellcrank, to hook up to the trans shift lever?(As shown inside the white outline) The one pointing down will be removed of course

I know what situation you are in now. You can try the adjustment, and you can try a homemade extension to the rod. But it may not work. Is the radius of the arm on the "new" transmission the same as on the old? If not, then your linkage and the PRNDL2L1 is not going to line up correctly.

I said I know what you are in for because I have had this happen several times when I was swapping c4 transmissions in my 65 mustang. The 65 had a different lever on the tranny for the console shifter, and each time I got a used transmission, it came from a column shift and would not hook up. It's a pain, but both times I had to pull the pan, take the shift lever out of the newer trans and swap in the old lever off the old trans. If you do this, take the old lever out of the old trans first so you can see what it will take to do it. And make sure you put new seals on the shaft before you put it back in. There is a seal around the kickdown shaft, that is easy to dig out and replace at any time. But the seal around the shifter shaft requires you to disassemble it to replace it, so you better do it while you have it apart. They do get old and leak.

If the lever on the old trans is different than on the new trans, you should change them out for it to work. Or you will have to do some fabrication. Can you think of any other reason why your setup is just not bolting right up like it should?
