For years I've been using a PullRite SuperGlide and have never been in love with it. It does perform as it should but it's noisy, clanky, and heavy. I hate that I cannot easily remove it to use my full truck bed. All winter long I've been reading and researching options. I liked the design idea of the AUH but was really hung up on the choice between the AUH and the PullRite SuperLite. Today I decided that I had agonized long enough and ordered the AUH (steel, Industry standard rail mount version). The design seems almost too simple but I have been able to find nothing but extremely positive reviews on this unit. I hope to be as pleased as all of those reviewers! In about 3 weeks, we'll be towing the Cougar from OH to TN. Between the new AUH and the Goodyear Endurance tires that I just installed, I'm hoping to be smiling, ear to ear!
Thanks Ski. Since you’re running a 350 short bed and a Cougar (same as me), can I ask what config you have your hitch and kingpin coupler in? I was figuring that I would install the hitch with the ball closer to the rear and the pin adapter with the ball socket behind the kingpin. I am merely guessing until my hitch arrives. I’d appreciate knowing what config you have yours in. Thanks again.
Absolutely love our AUH. Never had any issues. Its lightweight and easy to move around when not in use I've got a long bed so I keep the adapter and hitch forward but I've seen guys flip them both around for short bed use.

With both the steel rail mount and the aluminum goose ball hitches, I put the ball to the rear, away from the cab. And with my extended Max Turn type MorRyde pin box, I have the socket behind the pin to prevent hitting the bed sides in turns. I clear the cab by a couple of inches in a 90 degree turn.
If I had the older style front cap with the shorter pin box, I would put the socket in front of the pin.
I love the way my AUH rail version pulls the 5th wheel. It does an even better job now that the 5th has the GY Endurance on it.
The first time we pulled with the AUH we had just bought our 5th wheel in Wisconsin. We towed it home 1000 miles without a problem. Very simple to hook up and go, you will not be disappointed.
Just installed my AUH, super easy. Can't speak for the rail type. I have the factory 5th wheel prep.
I see some say they put the AUH hitch fwd of the gooseneck ball, directions only say to put it towards the rear. There are stickers on it saying to point this arrow towards the tailgate. No option for long or short bed in the instructions.
What do you gain by flipping it around?
You may have misread what was flipped. I can't think of why you would want the ball to the front, but the adapter can be mounted either way. The socket should be in front of the pin for a standard pin box and, possibly behind the pin for an extended pin box. I do believe that when I had my steel AUH, it indicated that I could flip the ball to the front of the truck with a long bed, but not sure what that gains other than moving weight forward some. My aluminum AUH says ball toward tailgate.

Thanks, that makes sense. I have not mounted my adapter to my 5th, but do remember the directions mentioning that for the install process.
