my 2014 6.2 truck sometimes will not cold start. almost like a carburetor engine that is flooded.
only way to start it is to step on the throttle while cranking over. once started and running for about 30 seconds it is fine.
just picked it up from dealer who tried to charge me $185 diagnostic fee to tell me there is nothing wrong with it because their computer did not find any problems, so i could bring them out and show them there is in fact something wrong with it when it would not start in the parking lot until i steppedon the throttle.
they then started with the "well we can change the tps for $432, the coolant temp sensor for $126, clean the throttle body for $348, but there is no guarantee it will work.
that was about the time i called them friggin parts changers and not mechanics and left.
anyone have any ideas? once started the exhaust stinks of unburnt fuel for a few minutes, just like a flooded engine does.
it does not do it all the time. may not do it for two weeks then happen 2 times, or ten times. then not happen again for a few days or weeks.
it has no rhythm or rhyme.
the MAF and MAP sensors were cleaned just before christmas when i also cleaned the throttle body and replaced front hub seals to get did of a vacuum leak.
that cleaning and repair netted me close to 3 MPG gain in fuel mileage.
the truck has 96,000 miles on it.

if it can't start one day, unplug a sensor and try again
if no iac..... look for temperature sensor for computer .. not for engine temperature gauge...
could be in air or cooling system..
I do not have my book handy...
injection system needs to know outside and engine temperature for starting.... richer for starting... leaner after a minute or 3 later...
for many years the japan built cars .. had 2 sensors...

it is really screwy Chuck. and very confusing.
with the old mod engines, 4.6,5.4, and 6,8 thus condition was usually caused by a bad engine temp sensor.
so i went to ford to get a temp sensor because no parts stores or sites list a coolant temp sensor.
as per my parts guy, that is because the 6.2 does not have one.
he said the computer uses cylinder head temp and engine oil temp to determine coolant temp.
