i have an 08 escape limited v6 with automatic transmission that seems to just loose all power to the wheels after driving like a few minutes or if i change to a different gear like from drive to reverse or if i start in reverse and go to drive tranny fluid looks ok and wasn't low i had 2 codes on the scanner p0122 and p0720 that was for the 2 different sensors so i replaced them both with motorcraft sensors and then saw on youtube to reset the electronics by disconnecting the battery and let the car run until it comes up to temp and let idle to relearn so i did all that and stil have the same problem only now there's no check engine light and no stored codes also the transmission was replaced 2 years ago as this was a used vehicle when i got it is there anything else i can check for before i have to buy another transmission it seems like it wants to go when it's first started but once it's up to temp it won't go into gear at all
ok thank you will do tomorrow soon as i get off work cause it's dark and i gotta crawl under it
Cool - its a bit of a pain but its worth ruling everything you can out before condemning the tranny - and if you can rule something out with just time and effort thats better than having to burn $$$ on parts.
ok so i drain the atf it looks dirty but still reddish about 4 1/2 quarts come out so i put 4 quarts of fresh atf in let it warm up check the level and it's still high on the dipstick so i pull the plug out drain about another 1/2 quart out and put the plug back in check it again and it's right at the top of the full mark so i drop it down and try it and it's doing the same thing as before
Then it sounds like a valve block issue to me. It also sounds like it has been run 1/2-3/4qt overfill for a period, whether that would cause damage I'm not sure. At least you have ruled out fluid level as a fix, if not the cause, before having to dive in deeper.
When a vehicle will move in forward and reverse then loses all movement after a short time, then if you let it sit with the engine off and it engages again this is a classic example of a restricted filter in the transmission. When the engine is off fluid will drain from the filter and unclog it, then once the engine is started the filter will pick up debris until its restricted enough to cause a loss of fluid flow to the pump resulting in no line pressure and no engagements.
Even if you could get to the filter to replace it the real problem is what has clogged it, unfortunately it sounds like its transmission time again.
thank you guys for the help i appreciate it and would it be worth it to try and get a rebuild kit and try to do it myself or just pay a shop to put another one in
I would just a shop that specializes in transmissions do the work, these transmissions require special tools and experience to get them right. Everyone of these I do I install a full set of bushings through out and at least three valves in the valve body need to be reamed and fitted with oversized valves. These transmissions can also have extensive amount of hard part damage and can create a lot of debris that will have to be flushed out of the cooler in the radiator.
You are checking the fluid level with the engine running and the fluid up to temp, arne't you? If the engine isn't running, it will always read high on the stick. If it's cold an the engine is running, it will read low.

I just saw your post ,I have the same issue with my sister in law escape but the only difference is that she took it to a mechanic to fix a slipping issue on the trans and a week later it runs forward and reverse for a couple of mins then nothing. Could it be that the filter is clogged and just needs to be changed??

The filter can only be changed by tearing down the transmission. It's not a "routine maintenance" item.
