Couple of weeks ago I bought a used (barely - 4275 miles) '17 F250 Lariat 4x4, CC, etc., etc. I plan on having my oil & filter(s) changed by my long-time mechanic, and wanted to ask the obvious. I know I will have to document whatever I have done, and am curious as to what Ford will accept - there are pages in the manual for recording things, and I presume having my mechanic (large shop) update it, with his invoice, will suffice. Having spent this much money (cash ), I am completely paranoid. I'm under time constraints and will probably have to have the local dealership do the first oil change (4875 miles, the light came on today, but it's a year old this month) and will just bite that bullet. Speaking of the bullet, anyone know what an average oil change runs at a dealership? I've read several of the threads on oil, and feel pretty good about keeping up with that part on my own - just really glad forums like this exist!
Cheers and regards,
George J.
Receipts are good. You can also take a photo of all the receipts and upload them to a folder in the cloud for safe keeping and where you always have access to them.
My truck came with 24,000 miles of free oil changes from the dealer. They cross threaded the drain bolt and used an battery impact to tighten it up. Oil change techs at the dealer are like baggers at the grocery store. If you have a mechanic you know and trust, I'd go that route.
The Ford Owner Advantage website allows you to enter your maintenance. Of course anything done by the dealer gets entered automatically.
Taking a few minutes to enter oil & Filter changes, lets any dealer in future years to see what has been done on the truck. Just one more way to document your maintenance

I was wondering if the dealerships had access to the owner site info. I enter all my service records as well and keep a log book with all receipts.
To my surprise I had my truck in for a PCM flash last month, there is no record of that work in my service history. Does warranty work get added into the owner site service history?
Last 2 cars I traded, both bought new, the dealership didn't care about service records at all. No change in trade value, they tossed everything in the trash.

My local dealership charges me $103.00 for oil and filter change. That's using 10w-30 oil. They also top off under hood fluids, check water separator, check air filter, grease front axle u-joints, check air filter, and rotate front tires.
Last trip cost me $360.00 or so (don't remember exactly) because they did all of the above and changed my air filter and both fuel filters.
I expect the cost is going to go up significantly though, because I have been asking for 5w-40 synthetic oil and they have promised to get it in stock and keep it there for my future oil changes.
I have always purchased and taken my own oil to the dealer as they only carry the 10W30 and my truck is severe service. Never had a problem, even with a Quick Lane in Idaho, until a Quick Lane in Richmond VA refused my oil. I had them change fuel filters, bought an oil filter and went across the street to Midas for the oil change.
I use the aCar app for recording fuel, service, regens (service) and reminding me about tire rotations and filter changes. With my F150, the dealer entered service to my online MyFord. With the F350, they seemed to have dropped the practice.
