A quick Question

I just bought a 04 explorer back in early Jan. The dealership made an service appiontment for me and says that it's in march. He also said that my oil change will be at 7500 miles. Isn't that to many miles on that oil. It's a lease so the oil change is included but I might want to keep it after the lease so I don't want to damage it. What do you guys think. I have no Idea about fords oil or anything on a ford this is the first one I've owned.

If it is driven at "severe service" conditions, then change sooner, perhaps 3,000. Short trips of less than about 15 miles, long term idiling of the engine, extreme dust conditions, etc. constitute "severe service".

I would agree, change it at about 3-4K. Especially since it's a new engine, and you might keep the vehicle longer than the lease.

Where are you from? What kind of driving do you do? These questions need to be asked first...however...

It is true that you have two different service schedules. Regular and severe. Might want to pull-out your owners manual and read up. If you feel that 7500 miles is to long, then do an oil change at 3750 or so...cutting them in half. You pay for one, then dealer pays.

One thing...make sure to find out what oil/filter the dealer is using and use the same brand and type oil/filter when you do the service. It is best to be consistant.

quick question

Well I live in New Jersey and I really only travel about 4 miles a day back and forth to work. I know that's under 15 miles but on the weekends when the wife and I got out we take that car. Lately it's be about 20 degrees steady out so it's alittle cold for me to go out and change it. It won't be used for towing or any other severe conditions that someone asked before. So I was just curious about waiting until 7500 miles have expired. Thanks for all the help
