Just thought I'd try here to save me some *****ery
So I'm pulling the engine out of my 1968 Ford Ranger/Camper-Special. F-250 360.
I got all the bells and whistles off it, and now im trying to pull it out of the transmission, but something is holding it in. I've gotten the drivers side to serperate from the Bell Housing but the passenger side is still solidly on.
I've removed the 6 bolts that attach the Bell Housing to the Block,
I've removed the 4 nuts for the converter to flexplate nuts
I've tried moving the shifter on the car a few times.
I'm wondering if I'm missing something here. She's stuck!
There is a place on the passenger side that seeeems like there should be a bolt, but there isnt one there. Its at the 10 o'clock position on the bell housing looking from the front.
It's probably stuck in the alignment dowels. You may have to persuade it. It would be a good idea to support the trans too. You may need to use 2 big screwdrivers and pry it off. One on each side of the bell housing.
Agree on those alignment pins...they can be a nuisance pulling the trans and installing it. Some "persuasion" is required.
Agree on supporting the trans, especially since the torque converter to flexplate bolts are out. The converter may have a mind of it's own whilst pulling the engine and want to come along a bit.
Mine did the same , i just let it drop in a jerky motion a couple times and it let loose .
be sure to support the trans with some wood or something in about the orig mount position
Yes, it's been a long time but I only remember 4. And if my memory serves me, they only go one way so it's a good idea to put an indexing mark from the flex plate to the convertor.
Been a long time for me also but seems to me there is a hole in the flexplate for the torque converters drain plug to poke through. If I am remembering correctly then the TC and flexplate have to be mated correctly.
