Converter won't bolt up

I have a 1968 F-100 with a 390 engine, I'm doing a trans swap. The trans I got to put in it is suppose to be a C-6, I had to change the bell housing. When I tried to bolt the converter up it would'nt, the bolts that hold the fly wheel to the crank hit the converter. The converter on the trans that went out is differant. On the trans I'm putting in has EOAP-7006 C on the side. any suguestions?

"had to change the bell housing"
Not a C6! All C6 transmissions have one piece housings. It might be an FMX.

Rclarke, Thank you for that info, I have given up on the project for a bit, Just seems like one problem after another. Now I'm working on a 1971 F-500, just got the 4 speend tranny strightened out. It have been sitting for the past 5 years here in the desert and the holes in the valve covers were not plug during this time, would diesil fuel be a good solvent to flush this engine before I do any cranking on the engine?

Here's a link to a page with some transmission ID help. http://pages.prodigy.net/kennethl6/_wsn/page8.html

If its an FMX the cast iron housing bolts to the aluminum bell housing. The pan is rectangular and wider than it is long. Usually the dipstick tube screws into the side of the pan.
