You should be able to connect, what are you using for an adapter? You should be able to clear the CEL light too. I don't think that disconnecting the batteries clears codes.
I was able to get connected but I'm not sure how to clear. Is it one of the buttons at the top of the trouble screen page? Do I need the lite version for this, I have the trial now
Torque Pro, FORScan, Dash Command, and many other apps are available to check and clear the trouble codes - that is a very basic function of many OBDII apps. The problem is what to do about the trouble codes that re-occur. Many of the trouble codes on our 7.3L are little more than an announcement of what region of the truck to focus on. You then need the more advanced features of a registered app to conduct tests to isolate the problem.
Here's an example: A P1316 is an IDM code. OK... now you're focused on the IDM - but have nowhere to go from there on the (xyz) lite app. Only with the registered version can you conduct a buzz test to learn that you have an open solenoid coil on the passenger side. In the event that you feel paying for a registered app is not worth the expense - a single hookup a the stealership to check the codes costs over $100 today.
I monitor my OBDII gauges on my lengthy drives - particularly while towing. I'm saving $100 every time I touch the button on the screen. How awesome is that? I own the Pro version of each of my OBDII apps, and I still haven't spent that $100 yet.
For some reason I had assumed torque pro would not do it for our trucks. I'll have to try it next time. For forscan I just had to buy the lite version to get it to work. My code issue is wastegate control due to red line disconnected.
Torque pro pulled codes, but the info displayed didn't make sense for the truck. Given that the info it displayed was wrong, I was too chicken to try to do a reset.
It's seems like Forscan does a good job of pulling the codes and providing a means to reset the CEL. It's well worth the $5 for a the lite version.
Using a quality bluetooth module is critical, Torque pro will work with limited functionality using a clone device but Forscan is a bit more fussy in my experience.
I have OBDLink and PLX adapters. They work well. Forscan seems more advanced than Torque, for example it figures out my truck and only needs to know if it's a 2002 or 2003 model year.
