Intake manifold heat shield

It's been a while since I've been on here. The 75 highboy gets My attn. When time and $ permits lol. I have moved into the reseal on the 390. Yes, Yes I know it's supposed to be a 360. But a 390 was swapped and there you have it.
The intake is a S C6AE 9425-G.

it was leaking so I've popped it to reseal it. The engine had been rebuilt at some point and it looks great in the valley, heads etc. The heat shield however on the underside of the manifold has quite a bit of carbon build up inside. No one seems to address this so I was hoping someone had a way of pulling the 2 pins out to Clean the gunk out.

Unfortunately I am in California. No one does hot tank here anymore that I have found. And hey, don't hold the California thing against me, Just trying to get my project Goin forward.

Thank you to anyone that responds.

If its the thin stamped metal shield of the type that is on Cleveland and Modified engines, then it should simply pop out of place. Once out you can clean it with soapy boiling water and a bristle brush, or a plastic/bristle rotary wheel.

Alternatively, you can buy them new. They are only a thin stamping and shouldn't cost much. They generally come in a kit with new manifold gaskets also.

Intake

Nope, that's a Valley gasket on a 351-400M. I am referring to the heat shield mounted to the underside of the manifold on an FE block. Thanx for your help though.

What I've done in the past is cut the heads of the rivets with
a cold chisel, remove the heat shield and then drill out the shanks.
My local hardware store stocks the rivets but as an alternative you can get them from AMK Products in Winchester, VA.

https://www.amkproducts.com
Go to their PDF catalog. They're shown on page 163.

Intake manifold heat shield

Thank you Mike, and numbers dummy. I appreciate the information. I started slow, tapping around the rivets with a chisel yesterday after work. I got one to pull up a little, Then figured, someone has had this issue before on here. I'd rather ask someone before I commit to blowing my foot off. If I screw the baffle up taking it off, finding another one obviously isn't going to happen without digging which I really don't have time for.
many Thanks gentleman!

As another alternative, there's nothing wrong with drilling and tapping the manifold for a screw or bolt.

Success!

Well, I got off work and grabbed my small ballpeen and chisel and was able to get the rivets out without beating the shield up. That's some massive build up huh?
I discovered a few things on the shield. One, the run off drain is pinched closed so the oil was sitting inside and not draining. It's fairly dented in a few places but I can get it smoothed out.

I got the message about tapping and using small bolts, brilliant idea! And far more serviceable. Thanks again for all the help!

Rivets

Do you have a part number for those rivets by any chance?

I don't have a shield like being discussed, as mine is a 351M /400, but a buddy did such a remove and replace on one, then the next time he popped it, some of those screw like rivets were missing. He pulled the engine to find them.
