I have a 2015 F250 powerstroke, XLT with the base cluster. I would like to do some of the basics, like enable the dpf % PID in the cluster, and calibrate the speedometer to adjust for larger tires, (both are Ford sizes). I have read on here some threads on forscan and guess that the app is a free download, need to purchase the interface to plug into the trucks diagnostic port, then finally join the forscan forum to get unlock key??
Now, when I look on a site like Amazon, there are several different OBD adapters, some which work, and others people have had trouble with. Can someone tell me the model of adapter you have that works well, so I can buy the same model? Thanks!!
Since I do not use any other app that needs wireless/bluetooth OBDII connection, I went with a USB connected OBDII adapter with the MS/HS switch that allows changes on both CAN bus.
If you are not planning on adding an app on a tablet or phone, I would recommend the USB connection for use with a laptop. They are relatively cheap and do not have an issue with timing problems as some cheap wireless adapters seem to have. You can get a USB adapter on eBay for less than $15.00. Most will need to be shipped from China.
Also, you need a laptop to perform a manual/stationary regen.
I have the same one painted horse uses. It is the one that is recommended by FORscan. If you feel the $80 MX adapter is out of line have a read at FORScan forum ? View forum - Adapters & Connection. There is a thread there with users posting the cheapest possible adapters that work with FORscan.
I didn't want to be bothered with the inconvenience of a cheap adapter not working and went straight for the one that works.
