I'm looking at a 2014 FX4 with a 5 liter V8. My 2013 STX has the 5.0 and I love it. But the other one I'm looking at is a 2013 Lariat Crew Cab six and a half foot bed 6.2 L V8 what do you guys know about that 6.2 which one would you guys pick?
The 6.2 is a very good engine. I love my 6.2. Only bad thing is it is hungry. Otherwise it's great. I would consider the 6.2, unless fuel economy is a concern....
6.2 no question, unless the truck has other concerns. Last April I picked up an immaculate 2013 (Lariat Ltd./FX4/6.2) with 51,000 mi. and it ROCKS. The 5.0 is going to get better mileage, probably 1.5 - 2 mpg, but the 6.2 has a stellar mechanical track record and it absolutely flys when you floor it. Not that I ever do such a thing....
Go look at the 6.2 section and see how many problems there are VS the 5.0 section. You also do not have Smart charge on the battery or EPAS to break, still has a power steering pump.

Apparently we DO have some form of battery charge protection though. Last weekend I was sitting in the truck with the key on, listening to the radio, and after roughly 20 - 25 minutes I got a message on the screen to the effect "Shutting down to save battery".
You have a fairly low mile truck. Why bother changing?
Agree with this, what's your motivation to swap out a good truck for a reasonably similar used truck with an unknown history?
Just want some more bells and whistles?

I wouldn't use that as a guide--there are far more 5.0s on the road. When they were both in the F-150, Ford sold roughly nine 5.0s for every 6.2, so you're going to hear a lot more about what few problems the 5.0 has.
Now, back to the OP, I'd stick with the STX unless it's not getting the job done. If it's not, then how is it not getting the job done? Personally, I'd be looking for a higher trailer rating, which would probably be the Lariat 6.2, but it could be a wash between the two, depending on the axle, wheelbase, and cab. In that case, I'd probably go for the 5.0 FX4 to get its better fuel economy in every day driving.
Then again, if the 5.0 looks like it has been babied, but the 6.2 looks like it's been rode hard and put up wet, I'd pass on the 6.2.
In short, the engine figures into it, but it's not necessarily the first consideration. You need to figure out what you need the truck to do, then figure out which one lines up better with those needs.
