Anyone know what this goes to? Wiring issue

Idk why this is upside down.....
hey all, I need to see if anyone knows what this goes to. Im having a charging issue even after replacing both the battery and the alternator (came with new voltage regulator).

Edit: the wire is light green with a red stripe. The end that isn’t cut runs to the positive battery wire, and into the alternator. Or its at least lumped in with those.

That Light Green/Red wire provides the exciter voltage to turn on the alternator. Ford has used the same design for years.

The upside down diagram is the one you want.

So if I understand this correctly, this is not providing the alternator what it needs to work correctly? So that would cause the alternator to not charge the battery?

Also, would you happen to know what category this might be under in like rockauto for a replacement? And as to where the wire is supposed to connect?

Looks to me like the wire is cut. Without that exciter voltage the alternator will not turn on. It's an effective idler pulley at this point. The Light Green/Red wire is supposed to be hot whenever the ignition switch is in the Run or Start position. The power then goes through the instrument cluster/Charge bulb. From there is goes out to the alternator.

This is for a 1994 F series/Bronco, should be the same for your 1993

Okay, I see it. So that charge indicator is the piece with the wire thats cut im assuming?

Now that being said, is it supposed to be grounded on the same bolt that the battery/other grounds are connect too? Or does it go elsewhere?

Charge indicator is a lamp in the instrument cluster.

One of the photos you posted shows that Light Green/Red wire coming out of the wiring loom and one side of the connector (C139 female). The male end should have the same Light Green/Red wire that connects to the alternator (via connector C154).

Assuming your truck has a 2G alternator the connector is here (upper circled item):

Ok I see how that works now.

So I used the official ford parts website... that part is no longer manufactured. See the photo.

Those pieces are long out of production. Is the connector I showed for the alternator there?

Yes, all thats there and connected. I may have to search LMC or a junkyard to see if I can find it. I know how to reconnect a severed line, but ill need the new connector with a little more line to do so

those wiring connectors come apart easily enough, you could pull them apart and solder the connectors to new wire... assuming all the other parts are there. Or find it in the junkyard i guess

Take a small flat head screwdriver (jeweler's/eyeglasses) & work the silicon plug out of the end.

Pull the red locking wedge out of the barrel.

Use a sharp pick to ease the retaining tab back that holds the pin while pulling the stub of wire.

Not too far or it'll break.

Splice, solder, heat shrink re-assemble.

Turn key to on, no start & see if the bulb illuminates.
