Evening all! I figured I would come to the forum to hopefully get some help and advice on an issue I知 having. I have a 2017 F-250 Diesel that I知 having on and off issues with the rear brakes. Randomly, either the drivers side or passengers side will smell like the calipers and brakes are sticking. I never notice it while driving until I stop and can smell the brakes. The Ford dealership needs me to replicate the issue before they look at it for warranty purposes but of course it never does it when I can get to the dealership. Looking for some advice or what I can check to see what may be causing the issue as the truck only has a few thousand miles on it. Any help is appreciated!
Just yesterday after a 1 hour drive I got out and smelled strong brake odor for first time from right rear. While I thought it smelled like brakes I convinced myself it must of been regen. After reading this I think I will keep an eye on it.

I smell the brake issue every other week or sometimes once a week as it痴 random. If my truck is going into regen that often, there is a bigger problem.

Try turning traction control off and see if that eliminates the issue.

how many miles do you drive a week, If I drive mine daily it will regen atleast once a week, or about every 300 miles.
If you can get an inferred thermometer and get a picture of a high temperature at the wheel the dealer will likely investigate further. Good luck.
An infrared thermometer is an awesome tool to have around the house! I had an issue with brakes intermittently hanging up on several vehicles...found with the infrared.

while i agree...the limitation is that you ONLY know the temperature of the rotor or caliper when you STOP.
a BETTER solution would be to have a TPMS system which also reported and measured the temperature.
a TPMS temperature differential and ALARM could alert a user to bearing failure, sticky breaks or under inflated (potential tire) failure.

Just drove truck for first time after posting this on Friday. I have the DPF screen turned on and it now reads 0. I know driving it home Friday it was at 85% when I started driving. Long story short, it seems that a regen can smell EXACTLY like hot brakes. Not saying your brakes aren't sticking but in my case it was a regen.

True. In the instances that I referred to I already knew that I had a brake caliper hanging up. By shooting the temps after a short drive I found exactly which caliper was the problem.
