I'm sure you've hit on this a time or two in the past (or a hundred) but how do I save the PID's that are commonly used so I don't have to start from ground zero every time in AE?
If you have Giotto, you can't. If you have an older version...

I have that save session thing but I thought it was just for saving the run, these things are hard for me to grasp. And once session is saved how do you revisit it?
If I want to use it on my laptop, do I need to get one with a usb cord?
That is a good question. I can connect to the adapter through WIFI with my laptop but I was unable to figure out what ForScan to download to my laptop to use it.
Alright, well I will order the adapter right now. Hopefully it will be here by the end of the week. Until then, do any of you guys have any ideas on what I can try before then?

You can start throwing money at it :P
But seriously, you can inspect your ICP and IPR connectors. Check your fuel filter for any oil/black on the filter, check your coolant reservoir for oil or fuel.
Changing your CPS is cheap enough at $25.
Inspect your UVCH wires and connections for firm connections and look for any chaffing on the wires.

Aside from throwing my wallet at it, I already checked those things.
I forgot to mention, the CPS was the first thing I tried. Both gray
Light gray or dark gray with purple o-ring? CPS from parts store - internet are junk, purchase from Ford, International dealer only, or riffraff diesel. Makes no difference if the package indicates "Genuine Ford Part", there are probably a dozen different old versions still out there for sale.
Typical symptom of CPS failures are driving down the road and lose of power for a split second, up to a couple seconds, then a big buck forward in power and all is OK. It usually gets worse over time. Also stalling out when first started for no apparent reason. CPS seldom throws a code making diagnostics harder. Those have been my observations over the years.
I tried a CPS from ford, but I do have an old one that went bad from ford, I have been meaning to go an warranty swap it. I will swap it with a new one, and test it with that to double check.
Another odd thing I just noticed, is my blower was on! I walked past me truck a few minutes ago and noticed that it was making a strange noise. When I opened the door, the blower was on. Being that is it winter in new york, when I last shut the truck off I left the heat on, and something must be shorted out and allowing the heat to turn on with the key off! I don't know how long it has been on for, it still had enough juice to start despite not being plugged in and about 25 degrees. Maybe it is from the same issue, or maybe it is unrelated?
To test the ICP voltage, I think you turn the key on, and measure between terminal A and C? I read something about that the other day so I tested it; I had 5.05 volts.
The adapter came today, and I cant get it to connect to my truck.
I read about the blower staying on, and found that is a common problem when the fuse box gets wet. Upon further inspection, I noticed that the visor is allowing water inside. I will take it off and reseal it. Do you guys think I can just put a dehumidifier inside the truck, or do I have to take the fuse box out to dry it?
I wonder if the problem with the water is causing the problem with the scanner now? Once I get it working, which PIDs should I turn on? I put the adapter in my other truck (also 7.3) to make sure it was working and I was more than surprised at how many things that this app can tell me... now I have to figure out how to use it! I tried to research a small amount, it doesn't look like there are many people who use it with an Iphone, that made a tutorial anyway.
I had a dehumidifier in the truck for a couple days while I was sick, and wouldn't be working on it anyway, it didn't help. I found the source if the leak is my visor, so I will reseal it this weekend and take the fuse box out, and dry it. I also got a new CPS, Ill put that in also.
I haven't had luck with the reader, it keeps saying "failed to connect to vehicle, make sure the key is on and try again." I tried it on 3 other vehicles, and it works. I tried with the engine running, not running, restarting my phone, I put dielectric grease on the OBD port, PCM, and still no luck. Any ideas why it wont connect? Saying I tried several times would be an understatement.
