I had new wheels/tires put on my truck and the tire shop accidentally broke one of my sensors swapping them from the OEM wheels. . I bought an OEM replacement sensor at the dealer. The dealer would not install it as they said their tire machine cannot handle my 37/13.5/22's. Took it to tire shop and they installed the sensor but said I have to go back to dealer to get them to "activate" the new sensor. Will going through the air down process activate a new sensor or does it require one of those 350 MHz senders that look like a garage door opener to activate the sensor? I can buy a Motorcraft activation tool for a reasonable price but was unsure if I need that. I would rather just buy the tool vs. going through the hassle of taking it to the dealer if that is what I need? Nothing is easy with my local dealer and they give me a hard time because of my lift and wheels/tires. Appreciate any input. Thanks!
Have you tried the air down method that in the owner manual? I just did this last week to relearn TPMS positions after tire rotation. It worked very perfectly.

I have not tried that yet. Will try this weekend. I was trying to find out if that will activate a new sensor or not. I do not believe it will.
Yes that's a good thread but no follow-up from the guys that were having this issue as to how they resolved it if they were able to. I'll try the air down method tomorrow but don't hold much hope. Pretty sure I need to activate that sensor. Was hoping someone else had done this successfully and would share how.
I tried the air down method and no joy. Got it into the learn mode and driver's front tire worked fine. Passenger front where the new sensor is did not work. I kept letting air out and it gave me the double honk. I assume the double honk is a timer where it gives you the double honk if a signal is not received after a specified time period. So now my question is which TPMS activation tool works on these newer trucks? The Ford tools found online all look about the same but I don't know if they all use the same Hz? I can't seem to find one specifically listed for 2017 trucks.

I had some difficulty with my trailer tires. In the end, I was able to do it with letting air out, or putting air back in.
Drive the truck a few miles first. That will 'wake up' the sensors. Then, so the setting of the sensors.
Finally got my TPMS sensor activated. I was at the dealer for other issues so had them activate the new sensor. It sure is nice to not get that warning every time I start the truck or to constantly see that yellow light on my dash. Even better the dealer left my settings alone so I'm still good with my 65 psi max tires with forescan set to alarm at 50 psi.

Did they have to use the remote/fob? I had a new sensor installed on my campers wheel and it won't wake up via driving or letting air out. My guess is Activate is different than "wake up". They won't wake up until they're activated. Called my local service rep and they have no idea what I'm talking about.

I don't know if they used the FOB or not, don't think so, They used a device that kind of looked like a garage door opener that they held up near the sensor. It sends a signal to activate the new sensor. I can't recall if the truck was running or if the key was on at the time but I don't think so. Hope this helps!
