The valve stem on my right front rim broke and the tire shop replaced the TPMS sensor but now the dash either says very low tire pressure or sensor faliure. Do I need to have the dealer relearn the new sensor or can I reset this myself? Thanks. 2005 Explorer Limited with valve type sensors!

Reason: Forgot to include year and model
If you go to any Discount Tire store ( idk bout other tire retailers) they have the tools to help you reset the sensors ( it requires a magnet or scanner tool depending on model) The tool will "recalibrate the tpms sensor in the wheel. You have to follow the in-cab reset instructions, resetting the sensors in the wheels during this process( it involves walking around the vehicle in some cases).
Worst case you would need the Identification numbers on the back of the actual sensors and the dealer will have to input these codes in the onboard computer system. But thats worst case.. usually tpms malfunction causes this.. Good Luck
Quick edit : I also read somewhere on the net that u can actually reset the sensor using a magnet.. but i cannot recall what the process was.. possibly you could have better luck finding out. It was something about changing to another set of tires and the man held a magnet to the sensor or something of the sorts.. Google can be a big help sometimes! I just do not have the time right now to do any further fishing on this subject
