Jack Stand Recommendations?

Hi everyone; I need to get some jack stands that are tall and strong enough to support my F-350 when I need to jack it up. Can you give me any recommendations for ones that are up to the job, or any I should avoid?

Thanks!

Check the 6 ton jack stands at Harbor Freight. They appear to be sturdy and well made. I have a set that I would not be afraid to use with my truck or travel trailer. You can get them on sale with coupon for about $40.00. Sign up for their emails and coupons.

I would check tractor supply. The heavier the better. Don't go cheap with them.

A set of 6 ton stands should be a decent height for normal use under a SD. 3 or 4 ton stands will work for some jobs, are smaller, and can be easier to get under the front axle depending on what you're doing (or say dropping the rear axle while the spring hangers are on 6 ton stands if you're doing leaf springs). You'll end up with several sets if you do enough different jobs.

This is a good set:

I have a set of 12 ton stands from HF. They work, mainly used them under a tractor on a set of wood cribs for height. They were cheap enough I could leave them under it for months during a restoration, but when I did rear blocks on my truck they worked great. Great option to get two pairs in two different sizes at once.

I have sets of 4-, 6- and 12-ton red stands from here too(Torin or Big Red? They're painted red at least) They also work. The 4-ton set I believe is pinned and not ratcheting, which is an option I don't think I saw at HF. Some people get really worked up on ratcheting vs pinned stands

Thanks, everyone! I’ll most likely get a 6-ton set to start. I might upgrade my jack in the near future too; I have a 3-ton floor jack but my truck has about 4400# on the front axle so a larger factor of safety would be nice; I’ll probably grab a 12- or 20-ton bottle jack for that.

I appreciate ate all your advice!

That’s pretty neat! I’ve never seen those before but I’ll check them out. Thanks!

I am guessing the little handle on the left side is the LOCK for the stand..
never work under a hydraulic jack without a locking stand.

the pin is to change the height so you don’t have to crank up to the touch point.

the jack auto locks

to unauto lock it you lift the lever , then you can let the air out to lower the jack.

I have 2 sets of 6 ton stands for when I was working on the Super Duty. They worked really well. One was a Harbor Freight set and the other was a Big Red set from Tractor Supply. I also found the 4 ton rated jack from Harbor Freight does a get job getting the truck off the ground/ pavement to work on the vehicle.

I have two pairs of the 6 ton ones from Harbor Freight and they have worked great for several years. I have used them on Powerstroke, Cummins, and Duramax trucks with no problems. I have two pairs of the 3 ton ones also and the 3 and 4 ton floor Jack from Harbor Freight and I have never had a failure.
