Exclamation Help...Need someone with ae scanner

I just installed the powermax gtp38r turbo and bellowed up pipes from Riffraff
Diesel porformance and got it all installed, running and worked perfectly....Then it ran real crappy..sounding like it was only running on 4 cylinders. Found harness loose on passenger side and installed new pigtail, no change in how it runs. Wondering if I fried the IDM? I live in Fort Worth TX If anyone out there has a good scanner close by I would very much appreciate it. Frustrated in Fort Worth

Have you ohmed out the pins on both heads to check resistance on the injector solenoids?

It's not actually that hard. Figure out which symbol is for ohms then be capable of counting from 1 - 9 so you know where to place the probes (doesn't matter which color probe goes where), and then be capable of reading the display on the meter and writing it down.

Some here would say that's easier than trying to remember which side of the line to cut on.

I'll add that if you just replaced your turbo it is possible you still have air in your HPOP system. About 50 miles of spirited driving is often enough to clear it up.

Have you replaced or cleaned your IPR lately?

You're welcome to look at my current situation, chasing a similar problem.

No sir I haven't cleaned IPR in about a year now.. I cannot keep it running to drive at all. sounds like running on only 3 or 4 cylnders. while running I unplugged the ICP and it died, no oil on it. could it be the CPS?

You unplugged the ICP and it died? It should NEVER do that

Okay, I'm making a guess by your low number of posts that this is the first time you've worked with the ICP? I'm also speculating that you unplugged the wrong part. That's okay, it actually makes it easier to troubleshoot if we can get you to the right area

Please confirm this is the sensor you are unplugging and calling ICP.

Offer BEER and about 12 FTE guys will show up with AE. Sort of like telling people to bring a Red Solo Cup LOL!

But seriously, lots of good people on the forum and a number of Texas folks. But I hear it is a BIG state, so not always close, LOL.

You need to do a buzz test, which confirms the UVCH is connected for all cylinders and a rough idea that the solenoids on each injector are connected.

AE or Forscan (I haven't use this yet) can do it.

Listen to my videos on my thread (near end) is what I suspect is dirty IPR. Earlier in the thread is a video of actually running on FOUR cylinders, as I forgot to plug in the passenger side UVCH

Since you don't have AE and have to wait until someone can bring one (if you can't keep it running, can't travel with it), you *could* pull your IPR and give it a clean.

Suction out your HPOP reservoir, it's going to put oil in your valley. Can't hurt and you can inspect the oring and electrical connector closely on the workbench.

How old is your IPR and why did you clean it a year ago? Maybe you extended its life a year with the last cleaning and it's time to replace it?

But do the ICP sensor thing FIRST. Hoping you just pulled the IPR plug by mistake

Can you try it again? Are you certain you didn't mix up the connector with the fuel bowl heater (which should be white)?

I'm not doubting what you say, just never heard of this happening. When you unplug the ICP, the PCM should immediately switch over to internal tables- it's a normal troubleshooting method.

Unless multiple sensors are bad and the computer decides it doesn't have enough info to safely guess? I don't know if it does that or not?

Mark, @Sous - who would know more about what sensors the PCM defaults to use when it loses ICP? I'm guessing he has a secondary sensor failing...maybe even a harness or something

Your right, unplugging the ICP should NOT shut the truck down. As ExPA said, the PCM should default to a parameter in the event the sensor fails and keep the truck running.

Triple check for us please sir, that the ICP is what you unplugged. You can see it on the drivers side head and pointing toward the valley near the front of the engine toward the fan/radiator.

We are not saying you are wrong, but unplugging the ICP is very uncommon. I know how you feel, last weekend I had an issue with my power steering pump and hydro-boost system that was new to everyone here and on the interwebs. Keep answering questions and posting up ANYTHING you think may be amiss, we will help you get her going again.
