Coolant Temperature Sender

Hi guys,

I recently replaced the intake of my 352 with a 4 barrel intake off of a Galaxy. She's up and running but I'm having trouble finding a temperature sensor that will work. The port in the intake manifold is 1/8 NPT, while I believe the old sensor was 3/8 NPT. I tried putting in one from summit SMP-TS17 (but I've got the feeling it's more of a hot / cold light switch than an actual sensor.

Is there a 1/8" NPT sensor that will work with my stock gauges? It's a standard cab 66 F100, or will I need to drill and tap this sucker to take a larger sender?

Thanks

Just get a sensor for a Galaxie 4bbl (any 4bbl for the most part should be same). Or make sure the guy at the parts counter knows which thread you need. I went through the same thing when I swapped to a 4bbl on my 390. Any local parts house should have it. The truck was not originally offered with a 4bbl, so the correct part may not be listed.

What year Galaxie is the manifold from?

1965/71 used a sensor to activate the two warning (aka idiot) lights for the temp gauge. Blue for cold, then when it warmed up, the light would turn off, but if it overheated, a red light came on.

So, you cannot use this sensor, since your truck has a temp gauge.

1963/64 Galaxie all I-6 & V8; 1965 F100/350 240/300/352; 1966 F100/350 240/300/352 before serial number 751,000:

C3AZ-10884-A .. Temperature Sending Unit - 1/8" -27 pipe thread; stamped 260 (Motorcraft SW-344) / Obsolete ~ Available NOS & from auto parts stores.

Note: 1966 F100/350 from serial number 751,001; 1967/69 F100/350 used a 3/8" -18 pipe thread sending unit.
