I wouldn't do it. If anything I think it makes it look a bit weird, kinda like if you shaved your eyebrows. You notice the absence.
I don't think complete removal will halt the roof rot, you will need to address it on its own. If its a corner, the rails or the windscreen it'll need fixing.
Roof rot is from the inside out so the drip rails only contribute to the problem after the rot creates a path into the cab. There are several good discussions here as to the cause and possible cures for dent side roof rot. Here is a recent one.
I'd agree that it wouldn't be aesthetically pleasing to just remove them but drip rails could be made to have a lot more eye appeal and still perform their primary function of routing water away from the windshield and door jambs.
If you're going to get into major league roof surgery, you do have the opportunity to restyle the drip rails from utilitarian gutters into something more elegant looking. I'm thinking along the lines of a thin bead or ledge in place of the drip rail.
sons 75 we did last year. It was an explorer so it had the hood badge, that was filled, as was the antenna deleted and filled, it hd thin trim and the holes were welled up same for the chrome tiedowns removed and filled.
Shaved the rear courtesy light smoothed the tailgate and filled the back of the cab smooth. Tucked, lifted and rolled the rear bumper too.
@mofoco1, that's a nice smooth look. How does it handle the rain? Any intrusion via the doors? Are the wipers able to handle the extra water over the windshield?
I removed my drip rails when I had it painted. I'm really pleased with it. It doesn't get driven in the rain so can't say if it matters or not.
There is at least one member here who deleted his wipers because he, too, doesn't take his truck out in the rain.
As well, there are a lot of Street Rodders who drive sans wipers. They use stuff like RainX or just wax. Anyone here do that with their dent side truck?

now that is a very nice smooth looking truck, I wouldnt have not realized that the drip rails were removed if you hadnt told me.
my thoughts are if the roof rot is removed, corrected, and fixed correctly then drip rails removed should help to prolong it from reoccuring....
No rust on this one anywhere. The delete was just for looks as was the back of the cab, hope and tailgate. A properly repealed or welded up drip imo is best, but to each that own.
