Distributor pin breaking

Hi I have had the pin the holds the distributor gear break three times now on heavy load or high RPMs on my '85 300-6. Is this something fairly common?

Is there a high performance distributor that you would recommend over stock?

Any thoughts are appreciated as getting stranded is getting old.

Thanks! -Al

Fairly common
Replace it w/ a piece of 1/8 steel welding rod with a ball melted on each end by a TIG torch.
Problem solved for good.
The original roll pins are too brittle.

I've had several break on me too. Very annoying and has left me stranded a few times.
Just be sure it isn't another issue, like an old oil pump not spinning freely.
