I'm dealing with an 84 F150 with a 300 CID 6 cyl engine. I have had to replace the distributor shear pin twice? What could be causing this? Any help would be appreciated.
Is it possible that your valve stem seals have turned to 'bits' and are floating thru the oil system? They could stop the gears in the pump enough to break the drive pin. possibly.
My brain remembers there was a similar occurrence in the past 6 months, but not the reason. Search the archive if you will. It was something like the oil pump drive shaft not fitting properly-maybe it was upside down, don't remember. If you can, try turning the pump using a speed wrench or drill to see if it has 'rough' spots. Last but not least, drop the pan, and change the pump, clean/replace the pickup, replace the drive shaft, put back together.
