About engine Bearings:
I find it interesting that the Clevite 77 says they are for high revving engines, but then Summit doesn't have them in rod bearings. Odd.
Can someone answer a question? When I shop on Rockauto, and I'm looking at only standard size mains, they show two diff. flange sizes: 3.5670 diameter, and 3.602 od. That is .035" diff., same year, all standard. Does anyone know why?
On the funny side I noticed that Sealed Power, on all their bearings, states: 'Offers less resistance to wear & corrosion than other materials.'
Isn't that saying that they wear quicker than other bearing materials?
AB: I have the same early rods as you. Is there a diff. between, say, 1975 rod bearings, and those I would need for these early ones?
Can't really answer the question about materials, since mine came in a rebuild kit, but with the rod bearings, there weren't any differences.
Only differences between the 65 - 68 connecting rods and the 69 - 96 connecting rods were that the early ones didn't have an oil hole (which has been known to be a slight weakness in later rods), and the pin sizes are different, with the early ones matching the 351 pistons. Otherwise, we never had any issues with bearing differences. I imagine it would have come up since I switched connecting rods half way through the build and after parts were ordered.
