I found one other thread about this topic but it came down to well you have a DP Tuner and it doesn't really matter what you get.
I'm keeping my truck "Mostly" stock. However I've been playing around with the idea of getting a spare PCM. The problem is currently the truck has the code MME2. Should I just stick to MME2 for the replacement, or was there a good reason for going to MME7? (Or any other for that matter).
I've come to realize that getting the latest and greatest Ford code isn't always the best idea. Sometimes things get detuned for emissions compliance, warranty compliance, etc. At least that's the impression I get.
shoot Jody an email and ask him if the codes are the same. and make sure to give him the information about your chip and tunes. he will tell you if it will work or not.
Jody is from dp-tuner right? To be clear I'm not chipped nor am I planning to get one, just wanted to inquire about the "version" of the software from the Ford factory, but I'll send off an email linking to this thread
Well yikes, these Cali DPC-312 units are not cheap! Not sure it makes sense to keep one as a spare, on the other hand it's probably going to only get worse trying to find one. I'm probably looking at a wrecking yard at this point.
I have a few other things to fix before worrying about too many spare parts anyway. How often do these PCM's actually fail? Are they more likely to fail if they've been chipped? Perhaps I should worry about the IDM first anyway, they seem to have more problems with filling up with water and such.
Get a spare of each. There are a LOT of junkyards selling on eBay now. The trick will be getting them to confirm it's the right PCM, with the right code.
