what do you mean there is a separate sequence for the remote half of the key?

are you talking about enabling remote start?

I purchased my keys off amazon. On the packaging there was a label saying that the key and remote are programmed separately.

You will use forscan to program your key, that is to get the truck to recognize the chip, and crank and run when the key is turned. This is done in the process of the link I added earlier.

You will use a different procedure to have the truck recognize the remote (lock, unlock, and panic buttons).

You will need to use Forscan to enable the remote start platform on the truck. I am not super familiar with this as I haven't added remote to my truck.

Here is the procedure for programming the remote portions;
This erases all remotes so you want to include all active remotes in this procedure.

Make sure that you don’t press the brake pedal at any time during or before the procedure.

Procedure A:

1.Close all doors, then open drivers door and press the Unlock button on driver’s door while it is open, insert key into ignition.

2.Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 8 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode. (if the door locks do not cycle, then it was done incorrectly. You must start over by removing key and beginning from step 1)

(Off is the position where you can remove your key, RUN is the position just shy of starting your car.)

3.Within 10 seconds press any button on the first keyless remote to be programmed. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. If you only have one remote then skip to step 5.
4.Within 10 seconds, press any button on the second keyless remote. Door locks will cycle again to confirm programming. Repeat step 4. for all other remotes.
5.Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.

*If this does not work try the procedure with the door closed.

Once you have done all of this you can try hitting the remote start button and see what happens.... for some the truck will start!

If not, there are some numbers that need changed in the as-built files on forscan to enable the remote start. This has been done and there is info available if you do a search.

Let us know how you get on.

My understanding is those instructions are only for remote fobs that are seperate from the Key... is that not correct?

I don't have absolute authority, but as far as I know that is not correct.

You will find out as soon as you have programmed your new keys in forscan... either the fob portion will work or it won't. If it doesn't then you have the fix.

ForScan programming was a success. however when I enabled remotestart I dont get remote start menu in the cluster display. I assume I have to enable it seperately, but not sure which line to modify.

Sweet success! Always nice when it works the way it is supposed to

Hopefully someone with the remote menu experience will chime in and give you a pointer..

Keys are programmed and remote start works !!!

however I still have no option for remote start in the set up menu. I am not able to modify the as built data in the IPC for these settings. according to the all documents I read, I need to modify 720-01-02, but I have no options to modify this line.

It was me, being stupid..... didn't realize the "Write" function was for all the lines listed on the page. appropriate code changed to B and remote start option now shows up in the set up menu.
