ok I need to know the best way to lower my truck. is it a good idea to put the rear axle on top of the springs. how do i deal with the twin I-beam front suspension?
I have a '79 F-150 explorer. 460/4v
The best way to lower the TIB suspension is by using either dropped I beams (The beam is longer and causes the spindle bot be higher) or dropped spindles (the shaft the wheel spins on is higher). Just cutting coils off the springs causes alignment difficulties for which there is no easy adjustment.
There used to be manufacturers of dropped I beams but I don't know of any right now.
OH, no, no, no, We must never use blocks for lowering, bad idea.
Blocks make our U bolts to close to the ground, and they get bent some how or another. A C notch kit is a small cutout in the frame in th shape of a C.

Best I can do drawing an image.
Gives you more axle travel when your lower.
Two thick metal plates are added to the front and rear of the frame cutout to reinforce it, and some kits even give you a new axle stop to put on the frame.
check out the lowering kit for the rear. I think it would be easier than a flip kit. With the lowering hanger and shackle from DJM you will get 4: drop which is what you want. from what I have seen so far you want the rear dropped 1" more than the front. I think the flip kit will drop you more than 4", more like 6".
ok, I looked at their website and they have no e-mail contact. I guess I will have to call them direct. I noticed that in all their pics they have none of 73-79 F-series p/u's I reaaly would like to see this done before taking the chance.
