Do you have a chip? If you don't know, pull the e brake bracket off and behind that is the back of the PCM where a chip would go if you had one.
Mine would act like it was missing and sometimes it would lose all power for a second or 2, then be fine, happened while driving. Turned out to be a POS chip a previous owner had on there and it was loose. WTS light would come on usually when this was happening.
Could be a PCM issue. Hard to tell when you're not in person.
The truck has no chip. its bone stock :-)
so I might have to check the harnesses to the injectors as well as test the IDM again.. maybe my old idm is bad as well.. the truck I pulled it from, had several sensors and several injectors bad.
Had a problem with mine ,sometime it would start and run fine and sometimes it would not start, found that the computer was acting up, sent it off and got it repaired for 89.00 dollars no more problem.
I guess if the computer is messing up, im not necessarily getting a code? I do have a spare automatic pcm though . I did notice this morning that the idle is ok, even though it sounds like a very minimal surge.. the most skip came in over 1500rpm I think..
Ok... made it home, quiet a bit of skip.
Buzz test was good, no codes.
when doing running test , I got a p0476 exhaust pressure control valve range code. Truck still skips, no further code..
mhh
Until you get this resolved, you should carry the AE laptop with you wherever you take the truck. I would even consider having it running in the center seat while underway, just to see if AE catches anything when you get the skips/hesitation.
I have read lot's of stuff online where an IDM would fail, and one bank would go out, or it wouldn't even let you start the truck. But I have read a few people say they have had one or 2 banks fail because of the IDM. I think the UVCH can burn up and can mess up the IDM.
The PCM acting up doesn't always throw codes. The PCM is what throws codes so if it's having issues it might not always throw a code for something. When the crappy chip that I had on my PCM was dislodging, it would trip the WTS and it would lose all power temporarily. Once it wouldn't start and it threw no codes during that time.
Usually when a problem develops with the UVCH the IDM will shut down that side of the motor to protect itself. Shake the IDM to see if you hear water inside.
