i know there is alot of talk about the CPS, and i have a question. in other posts, people have said that if the tach doesnt move a little while the engine is cranking, the your CPS is or going to fail. now i have watched my tach as i start the engine and it doesnt move at all but the the truck runs great with loads of power. should i carry an extra CPS with me because since my tach doesnt move i might be stranded somewhere, or as the sayin goes if it at broke dont fix it? one more thing does it really matter if the tach move or not????
I just replaced my cps due to intermittent failures. Neither before or after replacement could I see the tach moving until the engine actually starts to fire.
I agree with powerstroke 250, mine doesn't move either. Going by the tach not moving I replaced my CPS but that wasn't the problem and it still doesn't move even with a new one. I think you should buy one and keep it in your glove box with the socket with a 3" extension and a screw driver just in case it goes out while your on the road. If you buy one, go to International where it is alot cheaper than buying from Ford. JMO

thanks for the info, thats what i thought some of you would say, but just thought i would ask anyways. have any of you heard about the crankshaft sensor failing, or just the cam sensor is the common one?
Most of the treads say the tach will move after it is cranked over for a little while. If you flash up like normal I don't think its going to show anything. Only if its not starting and being cranked for a while.
