I'm buying the Kia back from my Ex tonight. She's not one to take good care of things, and it's condition reflects that. I'm getting her '07 Optima with 167K for $1K.
Took a test drive and the car drove just fine. She said she last changed the oil at the end of December, but I didn't bother checking the levels before paying her and driving home. Pop the hood and find the oil level halfway up the stick and it's pitch black. Quickly check the coolant level and it's fine...as is the transmission fluid. Give her a call and discover she was in so much of a hurry that she forgot about the engine drain plug...she pulled the filter, let it drain, and thought it was good.
Tom if your wife doesn't take care of things then why even buy the thing from her? Just let her deal with it. What's your plan with it......selling it or keeping it?

Because of the price and it's history. I know it's been serviced because I've done most of it myself, and it was a good way for me to collect on some of what she owes me. I paid her $500, and the rest I'm writing down against her debt.
I've put 20,000 miles on my Escape in 11 months, so I'm gonna drive the Kia until it becomes a PITA, then I'll be selling it off. I can probably get $2K from it once it's cleaned up.
