Ok so it is cold as hell here in Michigan these days and I need a remote starter. I do not have an extra key for them to put in the car for the remote starter. What are my alternatives? Can I just order another key off amazon for $10 or does it need to be programmed in some way or what? Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, the key would need to be programmed. I needed a 2nd key for my Navi a while back and bought a blank off eBay. First, I could not find anyone to cut the key as if they messed it up, they did not want to have to replace it. Second, I could not find anyone to program the Navi for the new key. It's actually the vehicle that gets programmed for the key. You need two good keys to program a 3rd. I ended up going to Ford and buying a new key from them so they would program it as they would not program a key that I did not buy from them. The technician did me a favor though and programmed and then cut the key from eBay.
Anyway, back to your issue, there is a device in the steering column that reads the code from the chip in the key. No chip, no start. If there is a way to bypass that, you will have to go to Ford or a stereo installation shop as I am sure it would be something they don't want to talk about in public as this is an anti-theft measure for all newer cars.
Thanks fellas! I would assume I can just get a blank key for the remote start though would not need to get it cut. I was wondering if there was a bypass that I could get with out having to use a key.

An uncut blank but programmed key is what you would need. Maybe even cut off the key part so you only have to deal with the chip.
At the time...Prestige was on the high end of alarms with remote start and cell phone interface which is what I have, the system came with a remote start bypass module which you program to the vehicle. I didn’t like the idea of having a key in the Ex. The module is only active during remote start. With a programmed key stuck under the steering colum you basically just bypassed the PATS system. So anyone with a key programmed or not can start your Ex.
Go find a good locksmith. They can cut and program keys for you for about 1/2 the cost of the dealer. Once you have two keys you can use them to program a bypass module all on your own. The keys have to be 2 different codes and cannot be a cloned copy like most hardware store do.
The lazy way is putting a key in the column, but it's not the most secure option. Even if the key is uncut, it's the PATS that will slow anyone down that wants to take your truck.
Once you've bypassed the PATS you can get the truck started by hot wiring it.
Using a bypass module is the best option and you shouldn't have to spend more than $20-30. I've used DEI before with good results.
However to program that module, you'll still need 2 separate keys just like your would for programming extra keys.
You can try searching craigslist for key programming. There are people that will come to your door and do everything for you on-site for much cheaper than the dealership.
You don't want a cloned key because the PATS needs to "see" two separate keys for it to program the module or additional keys.
